Website Underscores Vice and Cover-Ups of Leadership in Phoenix Police Department
Phoenix, AZ (May 12, 2008)—BadPhoenixCops.com is a new website to showcase the scores of complaints filed against the Phoenix police department that go unanswered. www.badphoenixcops.com also serves as a Community for those to post their stories and show the disservices provided to them by the Phoenix Police.
“The problem with the management policy of chief Jack Harris and the Phoenix Police is that when you file a complaint or feel that you were not treated fairly, you have the Police, investigated by the Police,” “No one can seem to get any answer or an impartial investigation from the Police Department. Nothing is timely and they are unwilling to investigate their own when blatant fault and corruption exists. This was the Genesis for BadPhoenixcops, to help the public and officers voice their complaints, opinions and try to get some resolution.”
Many have personally experienced the Machiavellian side of the Phoenix Police where they attempted to maliciously prosecute citizens with fabricated evidence. In one example Detective Anthony Brokaw, Sergeant Brandon Huntley, Commander Sandra Renteria and the former Commander Louie Tovar in the Family Investigations Bureau did this. The lead detective ultimately perjured himself to a Grand Jury attaining a True Bill and Indictment. The case was Dismissed with Prejudice. All four employees were not reprimanded or investigated, and are still gainfully employed by the Police.
The site contains numerous recordings, public records, internal memos and statements from the Phoenix police showing abuse of power and privilege. “We find the police leaders themselves are involved either directly or indirectly with assaults, DUIs, sexual liaisons, corruption, homicides and suicides. When this is the case, the Phoenix Police try and remove from Public Record their investigations and Court entries. The offenders are often not reprimanded or, at most, are given written reprimands and coaching.” “It is insulting and a blatant manipulation of power.”
The website includes written statements and internal correspondences forwarded from Phoenix police officers. To help underscore the importance of www.badphoenixcops.com in a letter from the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association (PLEA, the Phoenix Policeman’s Union); dated June of 2006, the Chief openly admits his disregard for citizens and internal investigations. When confronted by PLEA with his supervisors’ misconduct chief Jack Harris states, “I am not going to allow PLEA and citizens to say how and when investigations are done.” The letter from PLEA goes onto to state, “Sadly his [Jack Harris’] disregard for citizens and employees in the investigatory process contradicts his priorities.”
“When the Police's own Union sees a problem, then something outside of normal channels needs to be created. www.badphoenixcops.com accepts anonymous postings from current and former cops exposing any existence of abuse by commanders and assistant chiefs in the Phoenix Police department. “These have been some of the best sources for us. The cops themselves are our best allies and supporters.“ “While many might fear reprisal and retribution by the Phoenix Police, these officers share that investigations are not done, records requests under the Freedom of Information Act are often lost or delayed indefinitely.
www.badphoenixcops.com has also added a daily Blog where police and the community can post their own comments on what they see, what they read and how things are handled. “The Blog is blunt and requires a sense of humor and a thick skin." The goal is for www.badphoenixcops.com to be a Community Watchdog site to keep Phoenix police in line and accountable for their jobs and actions.
